⎨ɓikkon⎬Day Five

I loved today!

We all went over to a family's home to visit this morning (the family I have mentioned in a couple other posts). The father of this family has 28 children. Not all of them live with him but there were certainly a lot of children at this property. We sat for awhile and then I asked if I could go take some photos of the children as they were playing. Well, as soon as the camera came out they all swarmed around, pushing each other out of the way so that they could get in the picture.

I tried to communicate to them that I wanted to take some pictures of them rolling their tires, but instead they just ran back and forth...

...but they did end up showing me how they roll the tires.

I wanted some shots of each kid by themselves but they all kept sneaking in the background!

Then I finally was able to get some individual shots with the help of an older girl.

I asked this little guy to smile and he just laughed at me hysterically.
This little guy has a broken arm. Treven is taking him to the hospital tomorrow to get his cast off.

Some of the women and children were really interested in my camera. I showed them how to take a picture and this is one they took of me.

Here's a girl showing me a game she plays with rocks and the pit of some kind of fruit. It's kind of like jacks except that she tries to get all the rocks into and out of a hole she's dug in the dirt.

I just love this. This 18 month old boy kept putting his hands on Stephen's hands.

I find that taking pictures gives us something to do together and to talk about. This little girl really stuck to me and held my hand as we left. She taught me how to count to 10 and say basic things in their language. I don't remember any of it but it gave us something to talk about. Visiting this family was so much fun. I absolutely loved connecting with the kids - laughing with them and trying to communicate.
These are a beautiful people.

Later in the afternoon we went back out to the hospital so Micah could have a blood test. It turns out that he has malaria. Please continue to pray for him. He was so brave when he was getting the test! He looked straight at the needle and said that it didn't even hurt. He's a tough little boy.

On the way home we had to stop a couple of times because there was a herd of cows in the road:

It's been a great day. My heart is full and I'm so excited for what is in store for the rest of our stay here.

Until next time.

Carlin (and Stephen)

Tidbits:
- 44ºC today. There were some rain clouds and there were a few drops of rain
- We ate a local chocolate bar that Tiana says tastes like gas
- Stephen asked Micah what his favourite fruit was. He said "chocolate." Stephen asked Micah what his favourite vegetable was. He said "apples." Good man.
- I took my fabric to a tailor today to have my outfit made.
-Tiana was looking through Stephen's Entertainment Weekly magazine. She came across a photo of Channing Tatum and said, "that's Stephen!" My handsome husband:)
