⎨wuro-gure⎬Day Six

This morning we took the boy with a cast to the hospital. He had an X-ray taken and we could see the healed bone with the pin in it. He had the pin and cast removed. Removing the pin didn't seem too big a deal, but the cast was another story. He got quite scared, thinking that they were cutting off his arm. Treven and Stephen waited with him for the x-ray and the to finally have the cast taken off. The boy was carrying a small coin with him and Stephen played with the coin to help pass the time (spinning it, and flipping it).

The hospital is an interesting place. It is a mission hospital and people from all over this country and surrounding countries will travel to it (if they have the means) as they believe they will get better care here than at a government hospital (which is usually the truth). Patients' families are responsible to ensure that they get food and water, so many families are seen all over the hospital property. They bring their mat and they bring pots and pans so that they can cook food in a designated area on hospital grounds. While we were waiting for the doctor to see the little boy, we walked around a bit and met some of the people that were waiting outside. I met a 2 year old boy that was lying on his mat singing a song. He was quite scared of me at first, but when I started singing he would laugh and laugh. It became a bit of a game.

Melanie and I took a little drive to a surrounding village. I got out to take some photos of the town, but about 15 children started trickling out of their homes to come see what I was up to. I also got yelled at by a guy herding cattle. I think he thought I was taking pictures of his cows and he wanted money. I think that he thought I was pretty stupid when I wasn't able to say anything in response to him.

The children were quite the little posers!

And one dad even came out with his 3 daughters and asked me to take a photo of them.

This little guy was so proud of his hat! Then all the boys took turns wearing the hat in a photo.

After we got home today at about 5 o'clock, dark clouds started rolling in. We had a brief rain shower for about 20 minutes. It felt so nice! The kids even had a rain dance!

We went out into the street and met some of the community kids. By this time it had gotten pretty dark (it's dark by about 6PM here) so I got a few shots and then had to try to explain to them that I couldn't take any without the sun. I know the word for sun is naaŋge so I use that to try and explain, but I have no idea if what I said made any sense. It feels like such a handicap to not be able to speak freely.

Blessings,

Carlin & Stephen

Tidbits:
- 44ºC
- We filled up with gas today. It cost 534 franks per litre, which is comparable to Canada.
- Stephen's heat rash seems to be getting better. Also, Micah seems to be responding to the malaria meds and getting back to his old self again. Praise the Lord.
